Volodymyr Cherevanь
Bright, noble, with golden hands and an extraordinary soul — Volodymyr Viktorovych Cherevan was one of those on whom the safety, reliability, and life of the Ukrainian railway depend. His earthly journey was cut short insidiously and tragically in his native Dnipropetrovsk region, but the bright memory of him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew, loved, and respected him.
Volodymyr was born on October 3, 1990, in the village of Slovyanka in Dnipropetrovsk region. He made his professional choice consciously, graduating from the College of Electrification of the Dnipropetrovsk State Agrarian University.
For one and a half decades of his life — a full 15 years — he tirelessly dedicated himself to the Prydniprovsk Railway:
2010: he began his career as an electromechanic in the 1st group of the Pavlohrad signaling and communication section.
Efforts and skill: he worked as an electrical technician repairing and servicing signaling and interlocking devices, constantly improving his skills.
Since January 2014: he worked steadfastly and devotedly as an electromechanic in the 1st group, ensuring the stability of railway traffic during the most challenging times for the country.
“He could do everything, had excellent knowledge of servicing signaling and interlocking devices. A bright mind, golden hands,” recalls the head of the Pavlohrad section, Oleksandr Tsapenko. “Colleagues treated Volodya with genuine respect, calling him affectionately 'Uncle Vova,' even though he could have been many of their sons. He was remarkably well-mannered, so intelligent that he inspired admiration.”
Volodymyr was handsome not only in appearance but also for his deep, conflict-free, and wise soul. He inherited a love for the land from his agronomist father: he adored working in the garden, caring for the trees, and built and arranged his entire home with his own hands.
For his friends, Volodymyr became a true brother in spirit. His childhood friend Roman Peletskiy shares:
“Volodya was a person for whom no one's troubles were foreign. He was always ready to help anyone in need. If he could help, he did everything he could... I could come to him in the evening just to check how he was doing, to hear his voice.”
Volodymyr Cherevan died a hero of the labor front. On June 16, 2026, while returning with a colleague by car after a hard work shift at the Mykolaivka-Donetska station, they fell victim to a treacherous attack by an enemy FPV drone on the road between the villages of Vodolazke and Slovyanka.
His sudden death was an unspeakable shock for the entire large railway family. Perhaps such pure and bright people are indeed needed not only on earth but also by God.
Volodymyr is survived by his grieving mother and brother.
We express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the team of the Pavlohrad signaling and communication section. The work of a railway worker during wartime is a daily quiet heroism, and Volodymyr fulfilled his duty until the end.
Eternal and bright memory to Volodymyr! Rest in peace, Railwayman.
