Ivan SMUZHANYTSIA
Ivan Smuzhanitsia was born in the village of Bobovishche, Zakarpattia region. He studied at the Chernivtsi Technical School of Railway Transport, specializing in "Maintenance of Railway Structures and Track Facilities," and obtained the qualification of a track technician.
Throughout his professional life, nearly 22 years, Ivan dedicated himself to working on the railway. He worked as a track fitter, a track master, and a performer of works for the track column of the Uzhhorod track machine station, part of the "Center for Track Construction and Repair."
On July 7, 2023, Ivan joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, 2nd Mechanized Battalion, Machine Gun Platoon, and was the commander of the second machine gun section.
44-year-old Chief Sergeant Ivan Smuzhanitsia was killed on October 28, 2024, in the area of the village of Pobeda in the Donetsk region.
Ivan Smuzhanitsya proved himself to be a true leader, responsible and disciplined. His courage, willingness to sacrifice, and loyalty to his oath served as an example for his comrades. Those close to him recall that a special trait of Ivan's character was his kindness and openness, humor, and genuine smile. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting. His dreams for the future were connected with his family and homeland. Colleagues knew Ivan as a responsible manager and leader who always knew how to organize the work process and unite the team.
During his service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ivan was awarded the "Veteran of War – Combatant" medal; a certificate for diligence and conscientious performance of his duties; and also held a combatant participant certificate.
Ivan is survived by his wife Alina and son Ivan. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
