Mykola Varchyn
Mykola Varchyn was born in the village of Lyubytiv in the Volyn region. In peaceful times, he worked as a third-class trackman for the Kivertsi track division of the Lviv Railway since 2018. He spent six years working on the railway.
Colleagues recall that Mykola managed to complete his tasks at work while also being available to help others when needed. As a result, he quickly earned respect not only among his peers but also from older, more experienced workers.
“Determined, disciplined, meticulous, with a great sense of humor – Mykola took his work very seriously while also managing to make witty jokes, creating a positive working atmosphere,” recalls his mentor and friend, Vitaliy Yakobchuk, the foreman of the Kivertsi track division. Despite being over 20 years younger than Vitaliy, the two quickly found common ground and became friends, as the older colleague remembers.
On the third day of the full-scale invasion, February 26, 2022, Mykola joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a junior sergeant and a mortar operator in the 3rd mechanized battalion, commanding a mortar crew and delivering significant strikes against the occupiers.
Junior Sergeant Mykola Varchyn was killed on May 18, 2024, in the village of Zhovta Krucha in the Zaporizhzhia region. He was just 30 years old.
During short leaves from the front, Mykola always found time to visit Vitaliy Yakobchuk – asking about work, sharing frontline stories, and discussing plans for his wedding with his beloved… Unfortunately, the war dashed dreams of a happy future.
Mykola is survived by his parents and brother.
The team at the Kivertsi track division shares the indescribable pain of the Varchyn family due to this heavy loss and expresses sincere support to Mykola's parents and brother.
