Oleksandr SKUBA
Oleksandr Skuba was born in the village of Tarakaniv, Rivne region. Since 2013, he worked on the railway as a 4th-grade repair locksmith in the Zdolbuniv repair wagon depot. It was here that he met his future wife, Myroslava, with whom he raised two children.
“Friendly, open, always smiling,” recalls his colleague, leading engineer of the technical department and head of the depot's trade union organization, Iryna Romaniuk. “Oleksandr was very attentive to people, sensitive to their troubles and concerns.” Perhaps that is why Oleksandr Skuba became a combat medic during the war.
After being mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine and training at the training ground, the railway worker received a certificate as a MANPADS operator. Soon after, he qualified as a specialist at the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He became a medic for his unit, fighting in the hottest spots – Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Chasiv Yar, Bakhmut…
While saving wounded comrades, combat medic Oleksandr Skuba often disregarded the deadly danger posed by enemy bullets and shells raining down on him. Even massive shelling did not stop him, as he understood that the clarity and promptness of his actions depended on human lives.
Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Skuba was killed on May 30, 2024, in the vicinity of the settlement of Ivanivske in the Donetsk region from an enemy drone strike. He had turned 43 just two days before his death.
Oleksandr is survived by his wife and daughters Olha and Olena.
The team at the Zdolbuniv repair wagon depot deeply mourns the irreparable loss and expresses sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Skuba. As a combat medic, he bravely saved the lives of his comrades and paid the highest price for the freedom of his homeland. The memory of the Hero will live on forever!
