Roman Semenenko
When the city of Polohy in Zaporizhzhia was occupied by Russian invaders, Roman sent his family to a safe place and joined the local resistance movement. The occupiers tracked him down and arrested him. Roman was tortured and interrogated, demanding he reveal information about a weapons cache and the whereabouts of his older brother. Roman did not confess and did not betray anyone.
Roman was born in the city of Polohy, Zaporizhzhia region. He graduated from the local vocational school No. 13. He began his work on the railway in 1999 as a repairman for rolling stock at the Polohy wagon depot. From 2003, he became an assistant locomotive engineer, and from 2018, he worked as a locomotive engineer at the Polohy locomotive depot.
46-year-old Roman Semenenko was shot by the occupiers on May 4, 2022.
Roman is survived by his wife and daughter. His older brother Andrii, a locomotive crew instructor, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine to avenge Roman.
The team at the Polohy wagon and locomotive depot of the regional branch "Dniprovsk Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" honors the memory of their colleague. This dedicated engineer, with over 20 years of experience, did not succumb to the enemy during the occupation and joined the resistance movement. His courageous silence under torture and heroic death symbolize the resilience of the spirit. Eternal respect to his family. Glory to the unconquered Hero!
