Sergiy AKIMOV

Лиманське локомотивне депо
03.08.1993 – 31.05.2026

Serhiy Petrovych was born on August 3, 1993, in the city of Lyman, Donetsk region.

He began his career in railway transport in 2012 as a 3rd category mechanic for rolling stock repair. However, the romance of the railway and the calling of his heart quickly led him to train work — in the same year, he took on the role of assistant driver of an electric locomotive.

Serhiy always aspired to professional development. Despite the challenging and responsible nature of his train work, he successfully combined work with study — he enrolled in the correspondence department of the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport, majoring in "Transport Technologies." In 2016, he earned a bachelor's degree and the qualification of transport engineer.

Colleagues remember him as an exceptionally responsible, calm, humane, and sincere employee who held undeniable authority in the depot.

From the first months of the full-scale invasion, Serhiy Akimov made the brave decision to defend his country. On May 13, 2022, he voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As part of military unit A4076, Senior Soldier Akimov bravely defended his homeland from invaders. Comrades remember Serhiy as a reliable, courageous, and determined combat companion, someone they could always count on in the toughest moments.

On May 31, 2026, while carrying out another combat mission to repel the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the Nikopol district of Dnipropetrovsk region (near the village of Tomakivka), the vehicle in which Serhiy was traveling was hit directly by an enemy drone. As a result of the explosion and the injuries sustained, the railwayman-soldier died on the spot.

Serhiy is survived by his wife, two daughters, and mother.

Condolences from the management and staff
The management of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," the leadership of the regional branch "Donetsk Railway," and the entire team of the structural unit "Lyman Locomotive Depot" express their deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and comrades of the fallen Hero.

"We bow our heads in deep sorrow in memory of our colleague who gave the most precious thing — his life — for the freedom, independence, and peaceful future of Ukraine. His courage and self-sacrifice are an example of true patriotism for each of us. May the memory of Serhiy be a source of strength and pride for his daughters and the entire family."

Eternal memory, honor, and respect to the railway Hero Serhiy Petrovych Akimov. His feat is forever inscribed in the history of our country and company.
