Volodymyr Chernetskyi
Volodymyr Yaroslavovych Chernetskyi, an experienced railway worker and brave reconnaissance soldier, gave his life for the freedom of Ukraine on July 29, 2024. He died in fierce battles in one of the most challenging areas — near the city of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region. Volodymyr was 34 years old.
He was born on January 25, 1990, in his native Lviv. His entire professional life was closely tied to the steel highways, and his heart remained with his hometown and family.
Volodymyr was a railway worker by vocation. After receiving a specialized education at the Lviv Railway Transport Technical School, he embarked on a commendable path of professional growth:
He began his career in July 2010 as a locksmith at the Passenger Car Depot in Lviv.
Within a year, he moved to the locomotive sector, becoming an assistant driver of a diesel locomotive.
Since 2013, he worked at the Lviv-West Locomotive Depot. Colleagues remember him as a person of extraordinary discipline. Volodymyr never rested on his laurels, constantly improving his technical knowledge, earning sincere respect within the team.
In April 2024, Volodymyr Yaroslavovych exchanged his peaceful profession for a military uniform. As a man of action and high responsibility, he joined elite units, serving as a gunner in the second reconnaissance platoon of the airborne battalion. Reconnaissance and assault operations require immense courage. Volodymyr defended Ukraine's sovereignty at the forefront of the attack. After a fierce battle in July, he was considered missing for some time, but later came the tragic confirmation — the Hero fell on the battlefield.
Volodymyr was a reliable support for his family. He dreamed of a happy childhood for his children in a peaceful country.
To his loved ones, he will forever remain a loving father, cherished husband, and loyal friend, who knew how to lend a shoulder in the toughest moments.
Volodymyr is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
The team at the Lviv-West Locomotive Depot of the "Ukrainian Railways" JSC expresses deep condolences to the family, friends, and comrades. We have lost not just a colleague, but a true son of Ukraine, whose name is now forever inscribed in the history of our independence.
Eternal memory and honor to the Hero!
