Vladimir PIDORVA
Volodymyr Pidorva was born in the village of Ukrainske in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In 2002, he began working on the railway as a 4th category locksmith for the repair of electric rolling stock at the Nikopol Locomotive Depot of the Dnipro Railway. He worked as a locksmith for the repair of rolling stock at the Nikopol Reverse Locomotive Depot and later as a locksmith for inspection and repair of locomotives at the technical maintenance points of the same depot. Volodymyr dedicated 22 years of his life to the railway.
57-year-old Volodymyr Pidorva died at his workplace on November 17, 2024, due to an explosion of an enemy shell. During the shelling, Volodymyr and his colleagues were in the corridor of the building, following the "two walls" rule. The shockwave and debris spread through the corridor, and Volodymyr, standing at the edge, took the brunt of the debris, effectively shielding his colleagues with his body, which saved many lives.
The foreman of the locomotive maintenance point, Oleksandr Kalynichenko, spoke about the deceased colleague: "He was an excellent specialist, knew his job inside out, and held a high 5th category as a repair locksmith. There were never any complaints about Volodymyr or any issues with his work. He was cheerful, sociable, and had friendly relations with everyone." His wife, Natalia, added: "He was a family man: we lived together for over 36 years, and all this time Volodymyr lived for the family." In his free time, he loved to fish – it was his way of relaxing from household chores and work, and he enjoyed his catch like a child.
Volodymyr is survived by his wife Natalia, two sons – Ihor (36 years old) and Andrii (29 years old, currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine) – and five grandchildren. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
The team at the Kryvyi Rih Locomotive Depot deeply mourns this irreparable loss. Eternal memory and honor to our colleague!
