Mykola Kalashnyk
Mykola Kalyshnik, an experienced defender and principled guardian of railway lines, was killed on July 3, 2022, in Donetsk region. His life was an example of continuous service: initially, he protected cargo and railway facilities, and later—armed—he defended the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Mykola was born in the village of Novopolivka in the Kherson region. He belonged to those people for whom the concepts of "discipline" and "responsibility" were the foundation of life.
Mykola dedicated three years to the railway. Since May 2019, he worked as a shooter in the shooting team at the Snihurivka station.
In his unit, he was known as an uncompromising fighter against offenders. Mykola professionally ensured the safety of cargo, stopped property theft, and prevented unauthorized access by outsiders.
He was an initiative-driven and diligent worker who strictly adhered to technological discipline. Colleagues valued him for his straightforwardness, honesty, and active participation in the life of the unit.
Mykola was a seasoned fighter with years of combat experience: from 2015 to 2016, he served under mobilization, protecting the approaches to Sloviansk. He received the status of a combatant in February 2016.
When the enemy invaded the vast lands of Ukraine, the experienced warrior once again joined the ranks of defenders. He died in the hottest spot on the front line—in the Donetsk direction—giving his life for the freedom of his homeland and the peaceful future of his children.
Mykola Kalyshnik loved his daughters above all, for whom he went to the front—to ensure they could live in a free state.
He is survived by two daughters: Daria and Liza.
The team of the Kherson detachment of the militarized guard of the regional branch of "Odesa Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" expresses its sincere condolences to Mykola Kalyshnik's family. He was a true professional in his field and a faithful son of Ukraine. The memory of his bravery will forever remain in our hearts.
Eternal memory and honor to the Hero!
