Sergiy CHERNYAK
Serhiy Hryhorovych Cherniak, a locomotive engineer and professional with over thirty years of experience, tragically lost his life today, April 22, 2026. His life was cut short at his workplace, at the controls of a locomotive, during a treacherous attack by an enemy drone on the railway station. He was only 50 years old.
Throughout his career, Serhiy Hryhorovych exemplified unwavering loyalty to the railway and his chosen profession. He dedicated the majority of his life to railway transport—an incredible 31 years attesting to his exceptional experience and commitment. He worked at the production unit "Locomotive Depot Dniprovske-Vuzol" of the "Locomotive Company" branch.
He was one of those experienced engineers upon whom the reliability of transportation depends. His professionalism was indisputable, and his sense of responsibility exemplary.
The morning of April 22, 2026, became fatal. During the enemy drone attack on the sorting yard of the Zaporizhzhia-Live station, Serhiy Hryhorovych was in the cabin of the electric locomotive. Facing the dangers that railway workers in frontline zones encounter daily, he sustained fatal injuries. He died a true hero of labor, ensuring the continuous movement of the country until his last breath.
At the depot, Serhiy was known not just as a colleague but as a reliable friend who was always ready to help. He was valued for his humanity, openness, and genuine officer-like demeanor in his work.
The greatest tragedy is the family left without a pillar of support. Serhiy Hryhorovych is survived by his wife and two young children, for whom he was everything.
