Roman Petriv
Roman Ivanovych was born on August 27, 1975, in the renowned city of Lviv. He dedicated his life to a peaceful and immensely important cause—ensuring the reliable operation of engineering networks and railway infrastructure.
For over 21 years, Roman Ivanovych devoted himself to working on the railway, progressing through various departments and earning a reputation as a highly skilled and conscientious professional. Since December 2021, he had been working as a 5th-grade plumber at the Specialized Construction and Installation Works Division of the Lviv station (a production unit of the "Lviv Directorate"). Colleagues remember him as a calm, balanced, and incredibly hardworking person. Roman Ivanovych was always ready to help others, earning genuine respect within the team.
However, behind this peaceful railway worker was the experience of a true warrior. Roman Ivanovych was a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), and with the onset of the full-scale invasion by Russian occupiers, he returned to the ranks of defenders. As part of the renowned 80th Separate Airborne Assault Galician Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he defended Ukraine in the most challenging directions: Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kursk, and Northern Slobozhanshchyna.
For his dedication and military valor, Roman Ivanovych was awarded the Presidential Award of Ukraine "For the Defense of Ukraine" and the Medal of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine "Cross of Valor."
In his free time from service and work, he found peace in gardening and mushroom picking, nurturing life on his land, which he defended so bravely.
The life of the Hero was tragically cut short on March 20, 2026, in the vicinity of the settlement of Velyka Chernechchyna in the Sumy region. While fulfilling his military duty, Roman Ivanovych was killed by explosions and shrapnel, remaining true to his oath until the end.
The team of the "Center for Construction and Installation Works and Operation of Buildings and Structures" and the production structural unit "Lviv Directorate" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" expresses its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
It is bitter and heavy in our hearts when the best of the best leave us. This void cannot be filled, yet we know: this sacrifice was not in vain. Roman Ivanovych died for the sake of others, for the sake of peace and tranquility on our land. The light of his memory will forever remain in the hearts of colleagues and in the history of our Victory. Glory to the Hero!
