Ruslan Cherukanov

Ruslan Bohdanovych was born on July 31, 1980, in the city of Chop, Uzhhorod district, Zakarpattia region. After finishing school, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he forged his character. In 2001, he tied his fate to the railway, completing training at the technical school of Lviv Railway and obtaining the profession of a locksmith for the repair of rolling stock – a rigger.

For over a quarter of a century – 25 years – Ruslan Bohdanovych dedicated himself to railway transport, working as a locksmith for the repair of rolling stock of the 5th category at the technical maintenance point for wagons at the Chop wagon assembly section of the operational wagon depot in Uzhhorod, a branch of "UZ Wagon-Service" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia." Colleagues knew him as an exceptionally responsible, sincere, and principled person. Thanks to his strong, decisive character and high professionalism, he enjoyed undeniable authority and respect within the team.

In the early months of the full-scale invasion, on April 6, 2022, Ruslan Bohdanovych was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a true patriot, he took up arms to defend his homeland as a senior rifleman-operator of the 3rd rifle section of the 3rd rifle platoon of the 3rd rifle company of military unit A4046.

On March 20, 2025, while carrying out a combat mission to defend Ukraine near the village of Basivka in the Sumy region, Ruslan Bohdanovych went missing during direct fire contact with the enemy. For more than a year and a half, his family, comrades, and colleagues lived in hope, but on August 25, 2026, official confirmation of the Hero's death was received. Until his last breath, he remained faithful to his military oath and the Ukrainian people.

In civilian life, Ruslan was a reliable support for his family. He is survived by his mother and sister.

The team of the operational wagon depot in Uzhhorod, a branch of "UZ Wagon-Service" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," expresses its deepest and most sincere condolences to Ruslan Churukanov's mother, sister, and all relatives, friends, and comrades. We share this unspeakable pain and bow our heads in deep sorrow before the magnificent feat of our colleague. The bright memory of the Hero-railwayman will forever live in our hearts.
