Serhiy CHERTUSHKIN
The Zaporizhzhia railway has lost one of its most experienced craftsmen. Serhii Anatoliiovych was born in Zaporizhzhia, where he found his calling. After graduating from vocational school No. 14 in June 1993, he joined the "iron family," starting his journey as an assistant locomotive driver.
For over 32 years, Serhii Anatoliiovych dedicated his life to the railway, working as a train driver at the Zaporizhzhia motor-car depot of the "Suburban Passenger Company." Friends and colleagues respected him as a true railwayman—a person of strong will who never backed down from challenges. He was known as a reliable companion, a diligent professional, and the heart of the team, always ready to lend a helping hand.
With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Serhii Anatoliiovych remained at his post. During the toughest days of 2022, he actively participated in evacuating people, transporting them from dangerous areas and saving lives under fire. He lived for his work and always spoke about it with passion.
In his free time, Serhii devoted himself to his family and his beloved home in Komyshuvakha, which he took care of personally. He firmly believed that Ukraine would be strong, prosperous, and free. However, on March 22, 2026, an enemy strike with guided aerial bombs tragically took the life of the railwayman right in his home, which the enemy turned into ruins.
His mother, wife, and underage son are left in deep sorrow. The family has lost its pillar, and the railway has lost a legendary driver.
The team of the "Zaporizhzhia Motor-Car Depot" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" expresses its heartfelt condolences to Serhii Anatoliiovych's family and loved ones. We bow our heads in memory of our colleague, whose life was an example of dedication to his profession and to people.
Eternal memory and honor to a true railwayman!
