Oleksandr Romanenko, a professional railway worker and dedicated sergeant major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died on November 6, 2025, remaining true to his military oath. His life was cut short while carrying out a combat mission in the vicinity of the settlement of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. Oleksandr was 34 years old.

He was born on March 23, 1991, in the city of Znamianka in the Kirovohrad region — the heart of a railway hub, which defined his future path.

Oleksandr dedicated his entire adult life to the railway, progressing from a vocational school graduate to a responsible middle management leader:

In 2010, after graduating from Znamianka Vocational School No. 12, he began working as a speed regulator for freight cars at the Znamianka station.

He worked as a senior regulator, a duty officer at the sorting hill, and an operator under the station duty officer at Chornoliska.

While working, he completed his studies at the Odesa College of Transport Technologies.

From September 2021, he held a responsible position as the duty officer at the Shostakivka railway station of the regional branch "Odesa Railway."

Colleagues remember him as a specialist who thoroughly understood transportation technology and always kept a cool head in difficult situations.

On July 1, 2022, Oleksandr was called up for military service through mobilization. He served as a sergeant major of the 3rd category in the planning group of the combined fire support of the headquarters of the 6th Territorial Defense Battalion. He not only planned operations but also directly participated in combat in the most dangerous zones, saving his comrades and serving as an example of resilience for many.

He held the status of a combatant and was awarded the "War Veteran" medal.

Oleksandr was a pillar for his large family. He dreamed of a peaceful future for his little daughter and the prosperity of his homeland. His death is an irreparable loss for all who knew this bright and strong-willed person.

Oleksandr is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, and brothers.

The team of the station service of the Znamianka region of the regional branch "Odesa Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" expresses deep condolences to the family. Oleksandr Romanenko will forever remain in the memory of railway workers as a model of professionalism and a true man who gave his life for his people.
