Serhiy Onishchuk
Serhiy was born in the village of Bilyn in Volyn. He obtained a qualification as a mechanical engineer from the Dnipro National University of Railway Transport. Since 2007, he worked at the passenger car depot in Kovel: starting as a locksmith, he became a foreman, and for over ten years served as a master.
Colleagues respected Serhiy for his responsibility, dedication, and kindness. The deputy head of the depot, Ihor Lehnya, recalls that Serhiy was genuine, reliable, well-versed in his field, and willingly shared his experience.
On February 25, 2022, Serhiy was mobilized. He served for a year in the security company, after which he received orders to move to the front lines. He served as the commander of the 3rd mechanized platoon of the 1st mechanized battalion.
38-year-old Senior Lieutenant Serhiy Onishchuk was killed on June 24, 2023, as a result of enemy artillery shelling during counteroffensive operations near the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. For some time, he was considered missing in action.
Serhiy is survived by his wife Iryna and son Oleksandr.
