Vasyl Mykytiuk
Vasyl was born in Lviv region and lived in the town of Busk and the village of Storonybaba. He graduated from the Sumy Higher Artillery Command School. He worked as an inspector-repairman of railway cars at the Klepariv operational railway depot. He was well-respected, honest, responsible, and actively engaged in civic affairs. From 2020 to 2021, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO).
With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Vasyl voluntarily joined the military, serving as a commander of a gun crew in a battery platoon. He participated in the battles for the liberation of Bucha and Irpin, and fought in the Donetsk, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia directions. In the summer of 2022, he was severely wounded but returned to duty.
53-year-old Chief Sergeant Vasyl Mykytiuk was killed on February 10, 2023, during a battle near the village of Zatyshshia in Zaporizhzhia as a result of a massive enemy shelling of the artillery battery positions. Five days before his death, he celebrated his 53rd birthday.
Posthumously, he was awarded the Order of Courage of the II degree and the title of "Honorary Citizen of Zolochiv District."
Vasyl is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
The team at the Klepariv operational railway depot of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" mourns the memory of Chief Sergeant Vasyl Mykytiuk with deep sorrow. His courage and voluntary decision to defend the country are an example of the highest self-sacrifice. Glory to the warrior!
