Vitaliy Hasenko
Vitaliy Serhiyovych Hasenko, a chief sergeant and devoted railway worker with 31 years of experience, was killed on February 11, 2026, while defending the freedom and sovereignty of Ukraine. The life of the Hero was cut short during a combat mission near the settlement of Druzhkivka in the Kramatorsk district of Donetsk region as a result of an enemy FPV drone attack. He was 48 years old.
Vitaliy was born on June 14, 1977, in the village of Romodan in Poltava region. His professional journey was an example of incredible dedication to his chosen field: as a young man, in 1994, he joined the railway and remained loyal to it for life.
Three decades guarding the steel highways
For 31 years, Vitaliy Serhiyovych worked at the Grebinka track distance of the regional branch "Southern Railway."
Starting as a trackman, he later became a foreman of the 5th category.
Colleagues remember him as a technical expert and an initiative leader, whose calm demeanor and reliability were the foundation for the entire team. His wonderful sense of humor often provided support during the toughest work shifts.
Vitaliy was among those who did not wait but acted. On March 4, 2022, in the early days of the full-scale invasion, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He spent nearly four years on the front lines. As a chief sergeant, Vitaliy commanded a platoon in the 4th separate heavy mechanized brigade.
Comrades knew him as a fearless commander who was always there in times of danger. He was a man of honor, someone you could rely on in any situation.
For Vitaliy, family was the center of his universe. He dreamed of peaceful skies for his loved ones and did everything to bring that day closer. His death is an irreparable loss for the large railway family and his native community.
Vitaliy Serhiyovych is survived by his wife, daughters, and brother.
The team of the "Grebinka track distance" bows its head in profound sorrow and deep respect in memory of their colleague. Vitaliy Hasenko was a true patriot, whose courage and selflessness will forever remain in our hearts as a symbol of the indomitable Ukrainian spirit.
Eternal memory and honor to our Hero!
