Vasyl Povkhanych
Vasyl Povkhanych was born and lived in the village of Verkhnі Hаi in the Lviv region. He worked as a 4th category trackman in the transport shop at the Stryi Car Repair Plant.
Since August 2023, Vasyl joined the ranks of Ukraine's defenders. He spent eight months continuously at the front lines. He performed combat missions to protect Ukraine as a rifleman and assistant grenade launcher in the 1st mechanized squad of the 3rd mechanized platoon of the 2nd mechanized company. His comrades considered him a talisman, as Vasyl's presence during missions often miraculously saved them from death.
The life of 34-year-old Vasyl Povkhanych was cut short by an enemy mortar shelling near the village of Dibrivka in Luhansk region on May 29, 2024.
His colleagues in the railway industry remembered Vasyl as calm, balanced, kind, tactful, sensitive, and honest. He was persistent and determined in achieving his goals, disciplined, hardworking, and diligently fulfilled his job responsibilities, often suggesting improvements for work processes. Vasyl maintained friendly relationships with his coworkers and was always willing to help. He loved justice and truth, was distinguished by high moral qualities, and enjoyed authority within the team.
Vasyl is survived by his mother, two brothers, and a sister.
The team at the Stryi Car Repair Plant deeply mourns this irreparable loss and expresses sincere condolences to Vasyl Povkhanych's relatives, family, and friends. His courage, dedication, and loyalty to our country will forever remain in our memory. Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!
