On November 3, 2026, the life of 34-year-old railway worker and war veteran Vitaliy Vengerенко was tragically cut short by an enemy drone. The insidious strike from the UAV hit a group of passenger cars on the tracks at the Zaporizhzhia-1 station. Vitaliy fell at his workplace—in his hometown, to which he had devoted his best years and which he defended with a weapon in hand.

Zaporizhzhia was both a home and a professional cradle for Vitaliy. In 2010, he graduated from the Zaporizhzhia Vocational Railway Transport College, obtaining the profession of a train conductor, and immediately, in July of that same year, began working at the "Passenger Car Depot Zaporizhzhia-1" of the "Passenger Company" branch of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia."

To his colleagues, he was a true embodiment of reliability. Calm, completely conflict-free, always ready to take on additional responsibilities or lend a helping hand to a friend—Vitaliy was sincerely respected by the entire team for his sincerity and easy-going nature.

When the enemy launched a full-scale offensive, Vitaliy did not hesitate for a moment: on March 1, 2022, he voluntarily joined the ranks of Ukraine's defenders. The warrior fought in the fiercest battles, and on October 8, 2022, near Bakhmut in Donetsk region, he sustained a severe gunshot wound.

After prolonged and exhausting treatment, on April 11, 2025, Vitaliy was discharged from military service due to health reasons (receiving a 3rd group disability status). Despite what he had endured, he immediately returned to his home depot, to his beloved work and civilian life.

At home, his mother was always waiting for him, being the closest person in his life.

The team at the Passenger Car Depot Zaporizhzhia-1, part of the "Passenger Company" branch, and the entire railway family of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" express their deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to Vitaliy's mother and loved ones. The bright memory of his volunteer act, courage, professional dedication, and kindness will forever live in our hearts.

Eternal memory and honor to the Hero-Defender!
