Andriy Kachailo

Andriy Mykolayovych Kachaylo was a railway worker, a caring husband, the best father in the world, and a hero who gave his life for Ukraine. He dedicated over a quarter of a century to his native railway, and in a crucial time for the country, he stood up to defend it.

Andriy was born in the village of Vydvyzhenets (now Myrolyubivka) in Dnipropetrovsk region. He began his career in railway transport in September 1999 as a trackman in the Lower Dnipro track division.

His professional journey is an example of diligence and continuous development:

He progressed from a 2nd class trackman to 3rd and 4th class.

Since June 2020, he held the position of a foreman (released) for current maintenance and repair of tracks and artificial structures of 5th class.

In total, he dedicated 26 years of his life to the railway.

In his team, Andriy Mykolayovych was respected for his professionalism, fairness, and kind heart.

“Andriy Mykolayovych knew our work perfectly; he was a true professional. As a foreman, he acted persistently and purposefully... He never gave us foolish orders, got along well with people, and was the soul of our team,” recalls trackman Dmytro Lashko.

Colleagues remember him not only as a reliable mentor at work but also as a person with a big heart who sincerely loved fishing and knew how to be a good friend.

Having a deferment from the company, Andriy Mykolayovych made a conscious decision and voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine on March 14, 2022. He fought in the hottest direction—in Donetsk region, as part of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh.

Initially, the army recognized his “golden hands” and engineering ingenuity—he was assigned to repair equipment. But when there was an acute shortage of personnel at the front, he did not hesitate to take up arms at the “zero” line.

Andriy was killed on February 24, 2023, in battle near the village of Vodiane in the Yasynuvata district. For a long time, he was considered missing, and only after a prolonged uncertainty did the bitter news arrive—the family received official confirmation of his death.

The greatest happiness for Andriy was his family. Together with his wife Oksana, they lived 26 happy years and raised two daughters who called him the best father in the world.

He was a true host: he loved to work around the house, tended to the garden and the vegetable patch, and adored animals. His open heart was always ready to help anyone in need—whether it was mowing grass or fixing equipment.

“We lived soul to soul... Andriy was a true patriot of Ukraine,” shares memories his wife Oksana.

The hero is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The team of the Lower Dnipro track division and all who knew Andriy Mykolayovych will forever cherish the bright memory of his kind heart, courage, and dedication to Ukraine.
