Andriy Savchenko
Andriy Vasylovych Savchenko, an experienced train driver and brave paratrooper, died on January 6, 2025, defending the territorial integrity of Ukraine. His life was cut short while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of Berdyn in the Kursk region. Andriy was only 33 years old.
He was born on December 12, 1991, in the city of Fastiv in the Kyiv region—a city that was intertwined with his entire professional journey and love for the railway.
Andriy dedicated his entire adult life to railway transport. Immediately after graduating from the Kyiv Higher Vocational School of Railway Transport, he began his career at the Fastiv-1 motor car depot.
Starting as a repair mechanic for rolling stock, he became a train driver thanks to his perseverance and responsibility.
Colleagues remember Andriy as an exceptionally friendly and communicative person. His sense of humor, sincerity, and readiness to help others made him the center of attention in any company. He was not just a colleague but a reliable friend and the "soul" of his unit.
On October 9, 2024, Andriy Vasylovych exchanged his train driver's cabin for a military uniform, joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He chose one of the most elite and challenging branches of the military—the Air Assault Forces.
Colleagues and comrades say that Andriy was an example of courage. He bravely defended his homeland, giving a worthy response to the invaders in the most difficult combat conditions. Until his last breath, he remained faithful to his oath and duty.
Outside of service and work, Andriy was passionate about football. He had many plans for the future and dreamed of a peaceful life in a free country. Andriy sincerely believed that Ukraine would inevitably be strong and independent, and he did everything in his power to contribute to that.
The loss of Andriy is an unhealable wound for his family and all of Fastiv.
We express our deepest condolences to the Hero's mother, Natalia, and grandmother, Nadiya. There are no words that could ease the pain of losing a loving son and grandson.
The team at the Fastiv-1 motor car depot of the "Suburban Passenger Company" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" bows its heads in deep sorrow. We have lost a true professional and a loyal son of Ukraine. The memory of Andriy Savchenko will forever remain in our hearts and in the history of the Ukrainian railway.
Eternal memory and honor to the Hero!
