Denys Kononevych

Denys was born in the city of Dnipro. He graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Railway Transport Technical School. He worked on the railway for almost 25 years. He began his career as a mechanic and, since 2005, worked as a locomotive driver at the Dnipropetrovsk Locomotive Depot.

His wife, Viktoriia, recalls that he was an exemplary family man, the kind of person "about whom books are written and movies are made." Denys loved his daughters, Yulia and Arina, very much and spent a lot of time with them, even taking them fishing. The couple dreamed of a long and happy life and looked forward to welcoming grandchildren.

On June 1, 2023, Denys joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a gunner in an airborne assault company.

42-year-old Denys Kononevych was killed on July 24, 2023, during combat operations near the village of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region.

The fallen defender is survived by his wife Viktoriia and daughters Yuliia and Arina.
