Dmytro Zaskoka was born in the city of Dnipro. In April 2011, he started working for the railway as a mechanic for rolling stock repair at the Dnipro Locomotive Depot.

In May 2024, Dmytro was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

33-year-old Dmytro Zaskoka was killed on August 7, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Krynky in the Kherson region.

The mother of the fallen railway worker, Natalia Oleksandrivna, shared that Dmytro was very responsible: if he made a promise, he would go to great lengths to keep it, never throwing empty words to the wind. He had golden hands, having taught himself welding and machine repair through the internet, and he was passionate about computers. Half the village would come to him to install necessary programs, and he helped everyone without hesitation. Dmytro never rushed to give up; if something didn’t work out right away, he persistently sought answers, tried different options, and only then asked for tips from more experienced specialists. He loved justice and treated his family and close ones with care and attention.

“It’s hard for us without Dmytro,” says Viktor Mitin, the foreman of the mechanical and procurement shop at the Dnipro Locomotive Depot. “He was a good worker: responsible, diligent, and initiative-taking; and also a calm, balanced, and decent person. He repaired hydraulic reducers and manufactured spare parts for locomotives and electric trains. He knew his job excellently, felt comfortable in the team, and was respected for his conflict-free nature, ability to work in a team, and unwavering willingness to help colleagues. A wonderful guy, we miss him very much.”

Dmytro is survived by his wife Lyuba and their 7-year-old son Mykola.

The team at the Dnipro Locomotive Depot deeply mourns the irreparable loss and expresses sincere condolences to Dmytro Zaskoka's wife, son, and family. Eternal memory and honor to our brave colleague and hero who gave his life for Ukraine!
