Ihor Ovadiuk
Ihor was born and lived in the village of Kozlynichi in the Volyn region. After finishing school in his hometown, he studied at Vocational Technical School No. 5 in Kovel. He served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Before the full-scale invasion, Ihor worked as a section master in the locomotive depot in Kovel.
Junior Sergeant Ihor Ovadiuk was fatally wounded on March 7, 2022. Just a few days later, on March 19, he would have turned 32. As part of the 14th Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman, Ihor took on a powerful enemy strike on the approaches to Kyiv near the village of Dmytrivka.
In the early days of the war, he was called up to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“He was a diligent worker, a good and kind person, a loving son…” his colleagues, relatives, and friends remember. In 2010, Ihor's parents received a letter of gratitude from the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, for raising their son well.
For his personal bravery displayed in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for his selfless fulfillment of military duty, Ihor Ovadriuk was posthumously awarded the Order of “For Courage” of the III degree.
Ihor is survived by his mother.
The team at the Kovel locomotive depot of the regional branch “Lviv Railway” of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” deeply mourns the irreparable loss of their colleague and Defender. Ihor Ovadriuk, as an example of dignity and devotion, died defending the capital. We will always remember his heroic deed and express our sincere condolences to his mother and family. Eternal glory to the Hero!
