Igor Ovcharenko
Igor was born in the city of Zarafshan (Uzbekistan). He dedicated his life to the railway, working for nearly 19 years. He joined the railway in 2004 and later became an operator of the flaw detection trolley at the Verkhovtseva railway distance.
Igor participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (2015-2016) and was awarded the Presidential Award of Ukraine "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation."
On September 13, 2022, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In October of the same year, he was wounded in the Kherson region, but after treatment, he continued to defend his homeland.
Igor Ovcharenko, flaw detection trolley operator, was killed on April 15, 2023, during a mortar shelling in the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region. For a long time, he was considered missing, and only on November 25, 2025, did his family receive a death certificate.
Igor's former supervisor remembers him as one of the most qualified and educated employees who carried out the most responsible tasks. His colleagues valued him as a caring and positive person with friendly relationships. His wife, Oksana, shares that Igor was a kind, caring, and hardworking individual. In his free time, he played the guitar and accordion, wrote music, and sang very well.
At the initiative of the community, Igor Ovcharenko was awarded the Sign of Honor and the Cross of Military Brotherhood from the All-Ukrainian Association "Country."
The Hero is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, and sister.
The team of the Verkhovtseva railway distance of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" bows its head in profound sorrow and deep respect for Igor Ovcharenko. Our highly qualified employee, who was a talented musician, an ATO veteran, and a brave Defender, heroically fell.
