Mykhailo TURCHIN
Mykhailo Ivanovych was born on June 14, 1971, in the village of Lyubyntsi in Lviv Oblast. His life path was inextricably linked to his native land, which he loved unconditionally, and to the railway, to which he dedicated over three decades of his life.
Mykhailo began his career in railway transport in 1992. Over 30 years of tireless work, he established himself as an exceptionally responsible, diligent, and dedicated professional. His high level of expertise was repeatedly recognized by the railway management, and his sincerity and humanity earned him deep respect and authority among his colleagues. For many, he was not just a coworker but a reliable advisor and a true friend.
On November 21, 2022, Mykhailo Ivanovych joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a radio telephone operator in the 4th Separate Tank Brigade. His combat path led him through the fiercest points on the front line—Soledar and Bakhmut. Even after sustaining explosive injuries in April 2023, he did not abandon his comrades and returned to the Donetsk direction after treatment to continue defending the territorial integrity of his homeland.
On June 8, 2023, during a combat mission near the settlement of Chasiv Yar, communication with Mykhailo was lost. For two years and ten months, his family, friends, and colleagues lived in a state of anxiety and hope. It was only in the spring of 2026 that a DNA match officially confirmed that Mykhailo Ivanovych had died in that battle, remaining true to his military oath until his last breath.
He was a loving father, a caring son, a good husband, and a brother. His kindness and willingness to help will remain a bright memory in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
The railway community expresses its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mykhailo Ivanovych. This is an irreparable loss for our entire railway community. The bright memory of the defender who gave his life for peace in his native land will live on forever.
Eternal memory and honor to the Hero!
