Mykola BABKO
Mykola was born in the village of Bohdano-Nadezhdivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He studied at the Piatykhatska Secondary School No. 3.
He worked at the Kryvyi Rih Directorate of Railway Transportation. Initially, he was an operator on duty, later becoming a train dispatcher at the Riadova station. He dedicated 11 years of his life to the railway.
On May 22, 2020, Mykola was mobilized. He served as a rifleman and assistant grenade launcher in a mechanized unit.
39-year-old soldier Mykola Babko was killed on February 28, 2022, in battles near the city of Okhtyrka in the Sumy region.
His sister Oksana recounts: “Kolia was very kind, always ready to help—friends, colleagues, family; people were drawn to him. He was a hard worker: in the garden, in the vineyard, and with the bees—he knew how to do everything and tried to understand it all. He was a true patriot of Ukraine, defending its integrity and independence since 2015. Locals remember him fondly because when everyone who could leave the city did, Kolia shared his rations with the elderly who remained. After his death, his comrades sent his belongings home, and the Piatykhatska School No. 3, where Kolia studied, received a granite plaque with his name and call sign. My mother and I are left alone. Kolia was divorced and had a 7-year-old son, Yehor.”
The team at the Kryvyi Rih Directorate of Railway Transportation of the regional branch “Pridniprovsk Railway” of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” deeply mourns the loss of their colleague. Mykola Babko was a model of humanity, hard work, and patriotism. We share in the sorrow with his family. Eternal glory and memory to our Hero!
