Oleksandr VASYLCHENKO
Oleksandr was born in the Talalaivka district of the Chernihiv region. In 2011, he joined the railway, dedicating 12 years of his life to working as a second-class trackman in the Chernihiv track division. He also performed the duties of a tractor driver, holding the appropriate qualifications.
He was a cheerful, optimistic, and friendly colleague who earned respect and authority within the team. In peacetime, he greatly enjoyed fishing.
On March 31, 2022, Oleksandr volunteered to defend the country. He served as a senior mechanic-driver in the 26th Artillery Brigade named after General Horunzhyi Roman Dashkevych, defending the country in the hot spots of Donetsk region. During combat, Oleksandr sustained 70% burns and numerous injuries, but he bravely fought for his life for 11 days.
Soldier Oleksandr Vasylchenko died on October 10, 2023, succumbing to severe injuries and burns sustained on September 30, 2023, near the settlement of Halytsynivka in Donetsk region. An enemy shell struck his self-propelled artillery unit while he was carrying out a fire mission.
In recognition of his bravery, the Hero was posthumously awarded the Order of "For Courage" of the III degree.
Oleksandr is survived by his wife and brothers.
The team of the Chernihiv track division of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" pays deep and sorrowful tribute to the heroism of Oleksandr Vasylchenko. His voluntary choice, heroic struggle for life, and dedication to his homeland will remain an example for future generations. Glory to the indomitable Hero!
