Oleksandr Yeremich
Oleksandr was born in the village of Piskivka in Kyiv Oblast and lived in Bucha. He worked as a sixth-grade inspector-repairman of railway cars at the Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi railway depot. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and mushroom picking.
On the second day of the full-scale war, February 25, 2022, Oleksandr enlisted in the Bucha Territorial Defense Volunteer Formation (DTDF). He helped build fortifications for the defense line, anti-tank barriers, and checkpoints, where he later took shifts.
While holding the defense during one of the enemy's assaults, Oleksandr and other volunteers found themselves surrounded. Their group was cut off from the main forces and had no way to retreat. Remaining in the occupied territory, the volunteer continued to fight: he tracked the movements of enemy personnel and armored vehicles, relaying information to the DTDF leadership via phone. He continued to volunteer, providing water, food, and firewood to over 150 people.
Risking his own life, Oleksandr went into the private sector of the city for food and water, and to the forest for firewood. He brought aid to the apartment buildings where locals were hiding in shelters. Along the way, he constantly gathered operational information.
On March 25, 2022, Oleksandr was detained by an occupying Russian patrol. They searched him and confiscated his mobile phone, where they found remnants of reconnaissance information. Oleksandr was shot. He sustained one gunshot wound to the head and three to the chest. This occurred in front of witnesses.
43-year-old Oleksandr Yeremich was killed on March 25, 2022. He was shot by the occupiers just seven days before the liberation of the town of Bucha in Kyiv Oblast.
“Oleksandr was a loving husband and father. He always came to the aid of friends, acquaintances, and neighbors. He died thinking of others, not himself. The occupiers did not allow the body to be taken, threatening to shoot anyone who approached. At night, friends buried him in their yard,” said his son Serhiy and wife Svitlana.
The team at the Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi railway depot of the regional branch of "South-Western Railways" JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" mourns the tragic and heroic death of their colleague, Oleksandr Yeremich. His sacrifice and bravery, demonstrated while helping 150 residents and relaying operational information, will be remembered forever. Glory to the shot Hero!
