Sergiy CHABAN

Serhiy Volodymyrovych Chaban, a technically skilled railway master and brave defender with the call sign "Chabik," was killed on November 25, 2024. His life was cut short during fierce combat near the settlement of Zeleny Shlyakh in the Kursk region. He remained faithful to his military oath until the end, defending his homeland. He was 45 years old.

Serhiy was born on August 29, 1979, in the city of Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region. He was a man of action—both in his work, on the football field, and at the front.

Serhiy's career on the railway began in October 2015. For 10 years, he worked at the Dnipro Locomotive Depot of the "Locomotive Company" branch.

The depot management remembers him as an exceptionally responsible specialist. Master Mykhailo Murakhovskyi notes that Serhiy possessed deep technical knowledge and always diligently completed even the most complex tasks, ensuring the reliable operation of equipment.

"Chabik"—the heart of the team
Outside of work, Serhiy had a great passion that defined his character—football. He was not just a fan, but an active player.

For his colleagues and friends, he was the "heart of the team." Serhiy had a rare gift for turning any match into a celebration. Every pass, shot, or goal he made brought genuine emotions to those around him and united people around a common goal. This team spirit he later carried to the front, where under the pseudonym "Chabik," he became a reliable comrade for his fellow soldiers.

On June 21, 2024, Serhiy Volodymyrovych joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Although his combat journey lasted only a few months, he managed to prove himself as a brave warrior who did not shy away from danger and gave a worthy resistance to the occupiers in the most challenging conditions.

The loss of Serhiy is an unhealable wound for his loved ones and the entire railway community.

We express our deepest condolences to the Hero's mother, Nina Semenivna, as well as to all relatives, friends, and close ones.

The team at the Dnipro Locomotive Depot bows its heads in deep sorrow in memory of their colleague. Serhiy Chaban will remain in our hearts as a talented master, an unparalleled football player, and a Hero who gave his life for the future of Ukraine.
