Sergiy KRAVCHUK
Serhiy was born in Podillia, in the village of Tarasivka, Vinnytsia region. He graduated from Ulaniv Secondary School. Since childhood, he dreamed of becoming a builder. He studied at Kirovohrad Construction College, majoring in "Construction and Operation."
In 1993, Serhiy was drafted for military service, after which he decided to continue his service under contract.
In 1995, during his service in Izmail, Odesa region, Serhiy met his love, future wife Viktoriia, and they married in April 1996. Serhiy was a wonderful family man, and they had a son and a daughter. He had a cheerful disposition, many friends, and loved fishing.
In 2001, Serhiy started working on the railway with the Znamyanka Construction and Assembly Train No. 704. In 2016, he moved to the Znamyanka Protective Forest Plantations Division of the regional branch of "Odesa Railway."
Serhiy had a keen sense of justice, was brave, and devoted to his homeland. On September 30, 2020, he signed a contract to serve in the 57th Brigade as a mechanic-driver of the mechanized unit of the mechanized platoon.
Junior Sergeant Serhiy Kravchuk was killed in fierce combat with the occupiers on February 24, 2022, while defending Ukraine's border near the village of Bilovodsk, Luhansk region. Unfortunately, the odds were against him... Before his death, the soldier managed to call his family and say goodbye. He was only 46 years old.
Serhiy was awarded the Presidential Award of Ukraine "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation," the "Combatant" medal, and the "Participant of ATO/JFO" medal.
In 2023, a memorial plaque was installed on the building of the Znamyanka Protective Forest Plantations Division in honor of the fallen defender, reminding us of our colleague's patriotism and heroism.
"We unveiled the memorial plaque so that we never forget who allows us to wake up in our beds, go to school, raise our children, and lead relatively peaceful lives. Serhiy gave the most precious thing a person can give for us – his own life. We must never forget this. Heroes live among us," said Volodymyr Sokyrko, the mayor of Znamyanka.
The team of the "Znamyanka Protective Forest Plantations" production unit of the regional branch of "Odesa Railway" of the joint-stock company "Ukrainian Railways" expresses deep condolences to Serhiy Kravchuk's family. Our colleague fell as a Hero, defending each of us. The memory of his sacrifice and courage will live on forever. Glory to Ukraine!
