Sergiy REKYL
Serhiy Yakovlevych Rekyl was born in the village of Nemyrivka, Kamianske District, Moldavian SSR. In 1991, he joined the railway family as a trackman. In 2017, he transferred to the Podilsk Protective Afforestation Division, and later to the Odesa Protective Afforestation Division as a lumberjack. He worked as a 5th category lumberjack at the Vapniarka Production Section of the Tomashpil Forestry Department of the Odesa Protective Afforestation Division. His railway service spanned 34 years.
On the third day of the full-scale invasion, February 25, 2022, Serhiy joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the mechanized troops, where he was an example of courage and dedication for his comrades. He valiantly defended his homeland and gave a worthy resistance to the occupiers.
Serhiy was killed on April 3, 2025, while defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine during a combat mission in the Donetsk direction.
Colleagues remember him as a diligent, disciplined, and responsible worker with a great sense of humor. He quickly earned the respect not only of his peers but also from younger employees. Even during short vacations, he found time to meet with railway friends, inquiring about work and sharing frontline stories.
Serhiy is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
The team of the Odesa Protective Afforestation Division deeply mourns this irreparable loss. Eternal memory and honor to our colleague and hero.
