Serhiy Yakymchuk
Serhiy was born in the village of Staromishchyna in the Ternopil region. He received vocational education at the Lviv Railway Transport Technical School (as a technician-electromechanic) and a master's degree from the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport.
Serhiy knew about war from personal experience, having fought for over a year in the ATO zone (defending Shchastia in Luhansk region) as part of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade (SAAB). Despite an injury that initially prevented him from being mobilized, he was eager to join the fight and in October 2022, he enlisted as a driver in the air assault battalion of the 80th SAAB.
34-year-old Serhiy Yakymchuk was killed on April 2, 2023, during one of the fierce battles in the village of Ivanivske in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region. He was to turn 35 in a month.
Posthumously, Serhiy Yakymchuk was awarded the Order of Courage III degree, the Presidential Award of Ukraine for participation in the anti-terrorist operation, and the badge of "Participant of ATO."
