Stepan SAMSON
Stepan dreamed of driving trains since childhood. He studied at the Lviv Interregional Vocational School of Railway Transport, specializing as an "Assistant Driver of Electric Locomotives and Electric Trains." After his studies, he began working at the Lviv-West Locomotive Depot, where he gained experience and eventually operated a locomotive himself.
Stepan always had an active civic stance. He participated in the events of the Maidan and fought for Ukraine in 2014. As soon as the enemy stepped onto our land, he immediately took up arms to defend his homeland. He served in the 80th Lviv Air Assault Brigade. His niece, Oksana Fedyk, noted that he often said, "I don’t understand where this inner need to defend Ukraine comes from; it must be something familial..."
Stepan Samson was killed on May 25, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the village of Pylypchany in Donetsk Oblast. He was forever 42 years old.
For his personal bravery, Stepan Samson was posthumously awarded the Order of "For Courage" of the III degree.
Stepan is survived by his wife and two sons.
The team at the Lviv-West Locomotive Depot of the Lviv Railway Regional Branch of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" honors the memory of their colleague. This locomotive driver and veteran of two wars, who consciously joined the 80th Air Assault Brigade, fell heroically. His deep patriotism, confirmed by the Order of "For Courage," and dedication to family values are an unforgettable example. Glory to the Warrior!
