Volodymyr Ostrovskyi
Volodymyr worked as a fourth-grade wagon inspector and repairman at the Klепарів operational wagon depot of the regional branch "Lviv Railway." He was a man of iron will not only by profession but also by spirit, upbringing, and principled civic stance.
Volodymyr was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity and took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). He defended Ukraine's borders in Sloviansk, Debaltseve, and Stanytsia Luhanska. With the onset of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, he volunteered to go to war alongside his comrades. As part of the National Guard of Ukraine's operational battalion named after Hero of Ukraine Serhiy Kulchytsky, he destroyed elite enemy units on the outskirts of Kyiv.
41-year-old senior soldier Volodymyr Ostrovskyi was mortally wounded on March 12, 2022, in a fierce battle with Russian occupiers between the settlements of Huta-Mezhyhirsk and Moshchun in the Vyshhorod district of Kyiv region.
"Volodymyr was a truthful, strong-willed, and decisive person. He always chose the interests of the state over his own," recalled his family and friends about the soldier-railroader.
The honorary citizen of the city of Kolomyia, Volodymyr Ostrovskyi, was awarded the Order of "For Courage" III degree.
The Klепарів operational wagon depot of the regional branch "Lviv Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" deeply mourns the loss of its brave colleague. Volodymyr Ostrovskyi, an ATO veteran and active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, heroically fell while defending Kyiv region from elite enemy units. His iron will, patriotism, and determination will forever serve as an example of service to Ukraine. Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!
