Vyacheslav Huzynets
Vyacheslav Yuriyovych Huzynets, a professional railway worker and brave combat vehicle commander, died on March 18, 2023, defending Ukraine in the Bakhmut direction. For nearly three years—33 long months and 20 days—he was considered missing in action. Only in early 2026, after extensive DNA testing, could his family and colleagues finally say goodbye to the Hero. He was 44 years old.
Vyacheslav was born on August 22, 1978, in the village of Hrusuvatka in Dnipropetrovsk region. His life was closely intertwined with the steel railway, where he worked with great dedication and professionalism.
Vyacheslav dedicated 7 years of his working life to the railway. He began his journey back in 1999 at the Pyatykhatske locomotive depot, and later, after a long break, returned to his beloved profession.
He worked at the Baturynska depot and later as a 4th category locksmith at the technical maintenance point (TMP) of the Terny station.
Colleagues recall that the team was like a true family for Vyacheslav. Together, they traveled daily from their hometown of Pyatykhatky to Terny, sharing both workdays and genuine friendship. He was valued for his diligence, skill, and easygoing nature.
In September 2022, upon receiving a summons, Vyacheslav unhesitatingly joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He fought as part of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa. He served as a combat vehicle commander and led a squad.
His life was cut short near the city of Chasiv Yar. He died as a brave warrior, fulfilling his duty to the people of Ukraine.
A long journey home and the miracle of legacy
The story of Vyacheslav's search is an example of the incredible faith of his wife Oksana and their children. They went through dozens of inquiries, meetings with military leadership, and DNA tests. Even when hope faded, they continued to search for their father and husband.
One particularly poignant story shared by his wife is:
During his last leave, Vyacheslav earnestly asked his children for grandchildren, as if sensing he needed to leave behind a legacy. Almost simultaneously, a "double miracle" occurred for his son and daughter—their children Matviy and Adelina were born. Unfortunately, the Hero grandfather never got to hold them in his arms, but they will grow up knowing that their protector watches over them from the heavens.
Vyacheslav is survived by his wife, three children, and two grandchildren.
The team at the TMP of Terny station of the regional branch "Pridniprovsk Railway" bows their heads in deep sorrow before the heroism of their comrade. Colleagues supported the family throughout the search and accompanied Vyacheslav on his final journey with the entire shift.
Eternal memory and honor to Hero Vyacheslav Huzynets!
