Yuriy KHOMENKO
Yuriy was born in Hungary into a military family and lived in the city of Smila. With experience from his compulsory military service, he graduated from the Zhytomyr Military Institute, earning a degree in radio electronics and a commission as a military management officer. He served until 2011, attaining the rank of major.
Yuriy participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), for which he received a corresponding award from the President of Ukraine.
Since 2017, he worked as an electromechanic (repairing and servicing signaling and communication devices) at the Shevchenkivskyi signaling and communication division. His mother recalls that he enjoyed working with radio electronics and was her first assistant and support. Colleagues knew him as a friendly, responsible employee who always responded first to requests for help.
On the first day of the full-scale invasion, he took up arms to defend his homeland. For his military service, he was awarded the "For Diligent Service" II degree.
Major Yuriy Vitaliyovych was killed on November 3, 2022, while defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine during a combat mission in the Donetsk region.
After his death, Yuriy is survived by his mother and daughter.
The team at the Shevchenkivskyi signaling and communication division of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" deeply mourns this irreparable loss. Our electromechanic, who was a career officer and radio electronics specialist with the rank of major and a participant in the ATO, did not hesitate to defend the country on the first day of the invasion. He left behind a legacy of kindness and readiness to help for his colleagues, and unwavering support for his mother and daughter. Glory to his memory and officer valor!
