Yuriy KUCHERIAVYI
Yuriy Kucheriavyi was born in Odesa. Before the war, he worked for 20 years on the railway. Initially, he was a foreman (released) for the current maintenance and repair of tracks and structures. Later, he became a track master in the track section of the Odesa-Sortuvanna railway station.
On June 16, 2023, Yuriy was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Galician Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of Ukraine.
However, on July 30, 2024, the war took the life of the 38-year-old lieutenant. He was killed near the village of Klymentove in the Sumy region.
Those close to him remember that Yuriy was a true friend, a person you could always rely on, a man of his word. After the victory, he dreamed of returning to the railway and becoming a senior track master in his section.
Yuriy's brother Mykhailo recalls: “Yura was very compassionate and valued family above all. He gave his life so that every child in our country could live under a free sky with their mom and dad.”
Yuriy's mother, Lyudmyla Vasylivna, cannot hold back tears when she remembers her son: “Yurko was a wonderful child; he dedicated his short life to us, his father, and his two brothers: he helped us financially and morally, supported us, and solved all our problems. Yurko always excelled in his studies; he was my pride. And how he was passionate about his work… he constantly talked about his team and various situations that occurred with his subordinates. We were waiting for Yurko to get married and become a father, but it was not meant to be…”
Yuriy Kucheryavyi dreamed of creating a strong family and becoming a wonderful father to his children.
The team of the track section at Odesa-Sortuvanna station is deeply saddened and expresses sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Lieutenant Yuriy Kucheriavyi. We share the indescribable pain of losing our brave colleague and faithful defender. His sacrifice for a free Ukraine will forever remain in our memory. Rest in peace, Hero!
