Yuriy PAVLENKO
When the enemy launched a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, railway worker Yuriy Pavlenko from Sumy region did not wait for a draft notice. On that very day, he made the decision to defend Ukraine, trading civilian tools for a warrior's weapon.
Yuriy was born in the city of Romny, Sumy region. He joined the railway family in December 2021, starting work as a 3rd category trackman at post No. 3 of the Talalaivka station, part of the "Romenska Track Distance" production unit of the regional branch "Southern Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia."
Although his civilian railway experience lasted only a few months, Yuriy earned deep respect from his colleagues. He was distinguished by exceptional openness, a great sense of humor, hard work, and a willingness to always lend a helping hand. Even during brief leaves from the front, he hurried to visit his native post and connect with his workmates, who had become his true family.
On December 26, 2023, during fierce battles near the settlement of Novoprokopivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, communication with Yuriy was lost. For nearly three years, his family, colleagues, and comrades held onto a thin hope, but after identification was conducted, an official notification was received: the 30-year-old defender was killed in that combat encounter, giving his life for the freedom of his homeland.
The Hero is survived by his mother, father, and two brothers.
The team at the Romenska Track Distance of the regional branch "Southern Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" bows their heads in deep sorrow and expresses sincere condolences to Yuriy Pavlenko's parents, brothers, and loved ones.
Eternal memory, honor, and glory to the Defender of Ukraine!
