Vadym ILICHEK
Vadym Mykhailovych was born on February 9, 1987, in the city of Apostolove in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. He began his career after graduating from a local vocational school, choosing the challenging yet important profession of a railway worker.
At the Apostolivska railway distance, Vadym worked as a trackman, dedicating a total of 5 years to this job. Colleagues and management remember him as an exceptionally diligent and hardworking employee. The foreman of the section where Vadym worked describes him as a kind, empathetic, and non-conflict person who could get along with everyone and approached every task responsibly. Vadym genuinely loved his work, took pride in it, and often spoke warmly to his mother about the everyday life of the railway family.
In July 2022, Vadym Mykhailovych was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On the front lines, he showed the same dedication as in civilian life—always concerned for his comrades and even during short leaves, he sought to return to them, not wanting to leave his friends in trouble.
Unfortunately, on March 29, 2026, the life of the railway hero was cut short in battle near the village of Ambarne in the Kupiansk direction. Until his last breath, Vadym remained faithful to his military and civic duty. After a period of uncertainty when he was considered missing in action, official confirmation of his death came at the end of April 2026.
Vadym’s mother, Valentyna Danylivna, remembers her son as an extraordinarily life-loving person who knew how to appreciate every moment and bring light to those around him. This inexhaustible energy and love for people will forever remain in the memory of those who knew him.
Vadym is survived by his parents, wife, son, and daughter. No words can heal this wound, but the memory of his heroism and bright soul will live on forever.
The team at the Apostolivska railway distance of the regional branch "Prydniprovska Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" expresses its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We bow our heads in sorrow for our colleague who gave his life for a free Ukraine.
Eternal memory to our Hero!
