Oleksiy FILIPSKYI
Oleksiy Filipskyi was born in Dnipropetrovsk. He studied at local school No. 39 and later graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Institute of Transport Engineers (DIIT), where he trained as a mechanical engineer. Since 2014, he worked on the railway, initially as a repairman at the Lower Dniprovs'k Locomotive Depot, then as a foreman and chief energy engineer of the depot.
On June 19, 2024, Oleksiy was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving as a driver in an infantry unit.
49-year-old soldier Oleksiy Filipskyi was killed while performing a combat mission on September 19, 2024, near the village of Vodiane in the Donetsk region. He sustained shrapnel wounds to the head and right arm that were incompatible with life.
Oleksiy was highly respected among his colleagues. He was optimistic, responsible, decent, educated, a master of his craft, and a good organizer. He led by example, supported his subordinates, and advised them on how to improve. At the same time, he was a good listener and heeded the wise advice of the depot's veterans. In short, he was a true person and a professional.
A colleague and friend of the fallen railway worker, chief mechanic of the Lower Dniprovs'k Locomotive Depot Oleksiy Shkil, recalls: “We met when I came to work at the depot right after graduating from university. We were both foremen, helping each other as we climbed the career ladder: I became the chief mechanic, and he became the chief energy engineer. These positions were interchangeable, so we worked side by side every day.”
His wife Olena also shares that Oleksiy was sensitive to people: “He always helped friends in times of trouble (sometimes I even felt that friendship was more important to him than family), understood others' problems, and willingly helped everyone. He valued honesty and strong 'lifetime' relationships above all, and could not tolerate betrayal and traitors. We have two children – a 20-year-old daughter, Sofia, and a 13-year-old son, Vitaliy. Oleksiy was a very caring father. Before the war, we started building a new house, where he did everything with his own hands. He dreamed that it would be for the children and grandchildren, so they could live well. Unfortunately, the war has brought its terrible corrections... After his father's death, Vitaliy dreams of becoming a military pilot to defend his homeland.”
The team at the Lower Dniprovs'k Locomotive Depot expresses deep sorrow and sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Oleksiy Filipskyi. We will always remember him as a true professional, a compassionate person, and a brave Hero who gave his life for a free Ukraine. Eternal glory!
