Oleksiy ZARUDNYI

Olexiy was a native of Kupiansk. Before the full-scale war, he worked as a crane operator (on the railway track) for the recovery train of the "Kharkiv Directorate of Railway Transportation." In his free time, he was interested in fishing.

In August 2022, his wife Olena and their sons left for abroad through a "green corridor," while Olexiy stayed home and, after the de-occupation of Kupiansk and the town of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, assisted the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the occupation of the city in 2022, he helped elderly people and anyone who asked for assistance during difficult times.

On August 19, 2024, he was called up for military service.

47-year-old Olexiy was killed in the Kursk region of the Sudzhan district on January 25, 2025.

On August 17, 2025, during a body exchange between the states, Olexiy was returned to Ukraine and was buried in Kharkiv on August 28, 2025.

Olexiy Zarudnyi is survived by his wife, two sons, and father. After the death of his wife in 2024, Olexiy's father moved to Chernihiv, as Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi is under Russian shelling.
