Viktor BASENKO
Viktor was born in the village of Bilousivka, Drachiv District, Cherkasy Region. He lived in the city of Odesa. Viktor held an active civic position and dedicated his entire life to the railway. He began his career in railway transport in April 1962 as a mechanic at the Odesa-Mala wagon depot. He held positions as the deputy head of the depot, chief engineer, head of the Odesa-Mala wagon depot, and later as the head of the "Passenger Wagon Depot Odesa-Hlavna." For many years, he contributed to the development of railway transport in Ukraine. Thanks to his high professionalism, initiative, and responsible approach to his work, a number of important projects were implemented that enhanced the efficiency of transportation and improved working conditions for railway workers. In his daily work, Viktor oversaw the capital repair of complex and oversized unique equipment at the passenger service base and automated lines for all types of processing that involve complex aggregates, as well as conducting accuracy and performance checks and testing of repaired equipment. With his involvement, defects were identified and eliminated during the operation of equipment and during inspections in the repair process on a daily basis, ensuring that the depot's laundry operations did not stop even during the full-scale armed invasion. He was awarded the badge "For Contribution to the Development of Railway Transport."
He died at home along with his wife, Stela Mykolayivna Basenko, on the night of April 30 to May 1, 2025, during a drone attack on Odesa as a result of an enemy drone hitting the third floor of a residential building.
We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones. Viktor is survived by three adult children and three grandchildren.
The memory of Viktor will always live in our hearts.
