Yuriy SHUMALO
Yuriy Shumalo was born in Lviv. He studied at Secondary School No. 67 and later graduated from the former Vocational Technical School No. 27. He then enrolled in the Lviv Railway Transport Technical School (now a separate structural unit of the "Lviv Vocational College of Transport Infrastructure of the National University of Lviv Polytechnic").
He worked as a duty officer at the Lviv station. Yuriy dedicated nearly 15 years to the railway. In his free time, he enjoyed technology and football.
In June 2024, Yuriy was mobilized into the military. The railway worker joined the ranks of the 5th Separate Tank Brigade of the Reserve Corps of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As part of his unit, soldier Yuriy Shumalo skillfully and selflessly carried out combat missions in the hottest conflict zones with the invaders in Donetsk region. Despite the deadly danger, he repeatedly came to the aid of his comrades. Unfortunately, he could not save his own life.
Soldier Yuriy Shumalo was killed on September 10, 2024, while performing a combat mission to defend his homeland in the area of the city of Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region. He would have turned 36 years old on September 21.
Responsibility, quick decision-making, determination, and the ability to utilize necessary information and identify the most important aspects were characteristic traits of Yuriy Shumalo, which earned him authority and respect among his colleagues. He was valued by his comrades and commanders at the front as well.
Yuriy is survived by his mother and daughter.
The Lviv station team deeply mourns the irreparable loss of a colleague who bravely defended our country. We share in the sorrow of Yuriy's family and loved ones. The bright memory of the Hero-railway worker will live on forever!
