Dmytro SAVIN
Dmytro Savin was born in the town of Radyvyliv in the Rivne region. He graduated from the State Economic and Technological University of Transport with a degree in "Organization of Transportation and Management in Transport (Rail Transport)." He lived in the town of Vasylkiv near Kyiv. For 15 years, he worked on the railway, serving as the leading engineer in the department for the development and ordering of passenger cars in the department for organizing domestic and international passenger transportation.
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Dmytro joined the Territorial Defense of Vasylkiv and, together with his father, actively participated in the defense of the town. Later, he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A petition for awarding Dmytro Savin the title of "Hero of Ukraine" states that on May 31, 2022, during a combat mission, Dmytro sustained serious injuries due to enemy artillery shelling. Without leaving his combat position, he blindly found a radio station in a destroyed dugout and called for reinforcements, saving his severely wounded comrades from the rubble, for which he was awarded the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's "Golden Cross." After treatment and recovery, Dmytro returned to his unit and, at the end of August 2023, was defending Snake Island alongside his comrades, which was constantly under attack from enemy aviation. For this, he was awarded the "For Combat Merits" medal.
Junior Sergeant Dmytro Savin was killed on May 20, 2024, in the town of Chasiv Yar while performing a combat mission. The defender's life was cut short at the age of 34.
In May 2024, Dmytro participated in the defense of Chasiv Yar as part of a special unit, where the team under his command successfully destroyed an enemy armored vehicle with Russian troops using a precision shot from a portable guided anti-tank missile.
On May 20, 2024, Dmytro decided not to send inexperienced and newly arrived soldiers, who had no experience in intense combat, to the front lines. Instead, he personally went on combat duty with a neighboring unit's team. During the rotation while disembarking from an armored vehicle, Dmytro was hit by enemy munitions dropped from a drone. The injuries were incompatible with life.
His loved ones remember him as very dedicated both in civilian life and in military service. Dmytro managed to save his comrades, but could not save himself.
Dmytro is survived by his parents.
The team of the Department for Organizing Domestic and International Passenger Transportation deeply mourns this irreparable loss and expresses sincere condolences to the parents, family, and loved ones of Dmytro Savin.
