Dmytro YAVNYI
Dmytro Yavnyi lived in the town of Khorostkiv in the Ternopil region. He worked as a 5th-grade locksmith for the inspection and repair of locomotives at the technical maintenance points of the Ternopil locomotive depot of the Lviv Railway.
His colleagues describe him as a highly skilled repairman with a creative nature. In addition to his talent for repairing and servicing complex machinery, Dmytro had a gift for painting.
“Dmytro was a man of action, not one for many words, calm, reserved, yet passionate about his work,” recalls Pavlo Mazur, the shift supervisor at the locomotive depot. Under his careful guidance, Dmytro gained experience and skills, progressing from a beginner to a top-class specialist over 15 years. “He approached his work with great responsibility, performed it meticulously, and never hesitated to seek advice when needed. By the way, his love for painting came in handy. During the painting of locomotives, Dmytro was often asked to do the most delicate work, which required patience and precision…”
Dmytro was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the end of February 2024. After training at the training ground, he carried out combat missions on the front lines as part of an airborne unit. According to Pavlo Mazur, upon returning from the “zero,” Dmytro always found time to call and chat, so the prolonged silence after their last conversation caused great concern among his family, friends, and colleagues. Unfortunately, their worries were not in vain...
34-year-old shooter Dmytro Yavnyi was killed on June 24, 2024, while performing a combat mission in one of the hottest conflict zones in Luhansk.
Dmytro was divorced and left behind a daughter.
The team at the Ternopil locomotive depot deeply mourns this irreparable loss and extends heartfelt condolences to Dmytro Yavnyi’s daughter, family, and loved ones. We will remember our colleague as a top-class master whose creative spirit and steel character were devoted to his homeland until his last breath.
