Kyrylo MARACH

Коростенська дистанція електропостачання
12.04.1986 – 17.08.2022

In civilian life, living in the city of Zviahel in the Zhytomyr region, Kyrylo worked as an electrician for the repair of overhead power lines of the 4th category at the Korosten electrical supply distance. Colleagues remembered him as a tactful, well-mannered, and authoritative worker, calm and balanced, who was passionate about hunting.

His military journey began in 2015 with the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade. He rose from driver-mechanic to platoon commander, participating in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and Joint Forces Operation (JFO). Since February 24, 2022, Kyrylo joined the resistance against the full-scale invasion. He was a brave scout, skilled in planning operations, and trained many recruits to become courageous fighters. From May 20 to June 16, 2022, at the stronghold "Kush" near the village of Zaitseve, he organized a strong defense, eliminating 10 invaders and neutralizing 3 Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups. From August 10 to 16, he held the defense at the stronghold "Hellas," successfully repelling three assaults. In the final battle on August 16, he led an assault group, personally eliminating 5 invaders, but sustained fatal injuries.

The life of 36-year-old Senior Sergeant Kyrylo Marach ended on August 17, 2022, in a hospital in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. He died from severe injuries sustained the day before near the village of Mazanivka in Donetsk during the assault on the stronghold "Tourist." Posthumously, Kyrylo Marach was awarded the highest state honor — the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star.

His wife Lyudmyla testified that Kyrylo always led his men forward, even when he could command via radio, because "everyone knew that Kyrylo would pull them through, even at the cost of his own life."

Kyrylo Marach is survived by his wife and two daughters.

The team at the Korosten electrical supply distance of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" honors his memory as the highest example of courage. His feat in the Soledar direction and the Golden Star of the Hero of Ukraine will forever symbolize the resilience of the railway family.
