Mark ZDOROVTSOV
Mark was a railway worker by profession—an electromechanical communications engineer for the Chernivtsi signaling and communications division. Although he was not yet 30, he went to war with serious combat experience. Since 2014, he had participated in the ATO, and with the onset of the full-scale invasion, he returned to the front lines. Serving in the 8th Separate Mountain Assault Battalion of the 10th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he fought in Donetsk, Kyiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions.
29-year-old Senior Sergeant Mark Zdorovtsov died on June 1, 2022, in a hospital from severe injuries sustained near troubled Kharkiv. While retrieving a comrade from the battlefield, he suffered a blast injury and multiple burns.
Everyone who knew Mark will remember him as intelligent, smiling, brave, optimistic, honest, and reliable. According to his mother, Mark shared very little about the front to avoid worrying her, assuring her that it was just "a storm" amid the explosions. She keeps his belongings from the time he was injured—a helmet, a patch, and a charred watch.
Mark was the only son of a mother who raised him alone. The defender was buried at the Glory Alley of the central cemetery in his hometown of Chernivtsi.
The team of the Chernivtsi signaling and communications division of the regional branch "Lviv Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" deeply mourns the loss of their colleague. This communications electromechanical engineer was a true Warrior at heart, who defended the country twice as part of the mountain assault battalion. His heroism, demonstrated during the rescue of a comrade when he sustained fatal injuries, will remain an unyielding symbol of self-sacrifice. Eternal memory and honor!
