Oleksandr Berezhnyi
Oleksandr Hryhorovych was born on March 7, 1965, in the village of Krasnyi Luh, Dnipropetrovsk region. He graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Technical School of Automation and Telemechanics.
He began his career in railway transport in September 2020 and dedicated 2 years to it, working as a 3rd class shooter in the military security team of Pyatykhatky in the "Kryvyi Rih Military Security Detachment." His colleagues remember him as a loyal friend, a disciplined worker, always ready to help.
From childhood, Oleksandr was passionate about literature and poetry, and he was an active community member in his hometown of Zhovti Vody, leading a literary studio and authoring several poetry collections. His wife, Svitlana, remembers him as a devoted and loving husband who, in his free time, also enjoyed radio electronics and telemechanics.
On February 24, 2022, Oleksandr was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he carried out combat missions as part of a mechanized battalion. His comrades recall him as a bright person, a brave and devoted patriot who, even in the combat zone, wrote poetry during his free moments. They handed his wife a notebook containing his poems titled "Kharkiv. Poems Under Shelling. He and She."
Oleksandr Hryhorovych Berezhnyi was killed on May 4, 2022, during an artillery shelling by the enemy of the defenders' positions in the settlement of Staryi Saltiv, Kharkiv region, while performing a combat mission.
We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Oleksandr Hryhorovych is survived by his wife, Svitlana.
The team of the Kryvyi Rih Military Security Detachment of the "Departmental Military Security" branch of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" honors the memory of their colleague. This dedicated shooter, poet, and community activist was among the first to defend the Motherland, where he heroically fell in Kharkiv region. His courage on the front lines and creative spirit, which did not fade under shelling, will remain an example for his family, colleagues, and comrades. Eternal glory!
