Oleksandr BIRIUK
Oleksandr was born in the village of Zalehoshch in the Orlov region of the USSR and lived in the village of Paniutynе in the Kharkiv region. In 1991, he joined the Southern Railway. He worked as a trackman of the 3rd category in the large crew at the Lozova track distance. Colleagues say he was a disciplined and conscientious worker, a kind and polite person who was always ready to listen and support. Oleksandr used to say, “The only way to do your job well is to love it.”
From 2016 to 2018, Oleksandr served under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since March 2021, he continued to serve as a grenade launcher in the 46th Separate Assault Battalion "Donbas" of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
52-year-old Sergeant Oleksandr Biriuk, with the call sign "Niemets," was killed on May 12, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission. He was caught in an artillery shelling and sustained a shrapnel wound to the heart in the village of Solodke in the Donetsk region.
Oleksandr is survived by his wife.
The team at the Lozova track distance of the regional branch "Southern Railway" of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" mourns the loss of their senior sergeant. This conscientious trackman, who became an experienced grenade launcher in the assault battalion, fell in Donetsk from enemy fire. His dedication to the Motherland, reinforced by combat experience, will remain an example for the locomotive family. Eternal glory!
